CBD Oil and Learning Challanges

You may be familiar with the stereotypical image of people becoming forgetful or giggly after smoking too much pot. Truthfully, marijuana and its use are more complex than the stereotype.

Even though hemp has some potentially useful compounds found within its oils, there is still a high awareness about these compounds. This can lead to people incorrectly viewing these compounds and pot as the same.

The amount of public attention that cannabidiol (CBD) has received, now allows people to distinguish between it and THC. THC is the chemical that causes marijuana’s psychoactive effects. Attention needs to be given to the research findings that suggest the positive implications of marijuana use on certain memory and learning processes.

In the human brain, each neuron counts when it comes to memory and learning. That’s because neurons are not replaced when they die. That’s why neuroprotection or the ability of a process or compound to prevent neuron damage is essential for brain health. This protection can also help when you need to remember or learn.

CBD may be involved in many neuroprotective processes. These are apparent in some of the findings regarding CBD’s possible antioxidant role and its use in schizophrenia therapy trials.

In 2014, Schiavon et al. published a study considering how mice would respond to a CBD treatment after experiencing neuron death or neurodegeneration. Mice the received the CBD treatment performed better on spatial learning tests when compared to mice that did not receive it.

Brain imaging showed that the mice that received the CBD showed less neurodegeneration in the hippocampus. The hippocampus is the part of the brain responsible for learning, long-term memory recall, and spatial memory. The authors of this study indicated that CBD might have a neuroprotective effect in mice. Which may facilitate better performance when learning.

CBD’s influence on learning doesn’t stop with spatial awareness. The ability to adapt to healthier behaviors and life patterns is an important part of the learning process, especially during times of stress. CBD may be able to help with some of these adaptive behaviors.

The idea of using CBD for adaptive behavior changes is still being explored. However, initial findings suggest that it is possible. Weiss, et al. examined the potential impact on CBD on adaptive behaviors by examining animal models of recovery from addictive behaviors.

A transdermal CBD preparation was used in the study, which has a delivery system similar to local solutions. CBD was associated with an increased likelihood of adaptive behaviors including decreased drug seeking and reduced impulsivity. There are some differences between people and animal models. However, these results can open the door to possible investigations into CBD’s use for behavioral learning.

Free radicals and other stressors may have a harmful effect on the brain and a person’s ability to learn. Neuroadaptation and neuroprotection are qualities that are needed in a daily supplement. CBD will continue to be studied for these roles. CBD is a supplement you may want to consider it you’re concerned with issues like your brain’s well-being or oxidation. CBD oils and balms may be a great addition to your daily regimen.
